Dr. Billings grew up watching his father, a family practice doctor, take care of the needs of an entire community for more than 40 years. He said he was in awe of everything his dad could do, and he knew from a very young age that he wanted to follow his father's footsteps into medicine.
Today, Dr. Billings specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee, hip, shoulder and sports medicine.
He says he first discovered sports medicine during college as a member of the Temple University basketball team. He got to know the orthopaedic resident who sat on his team's bench, and soon he was tagging along on trips to the hospital. He was hooked.
Dr. Billings came to Orlando for a fellowswhip at Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic. He thought he'd return north and open his own practice, but he fell in love with the group and knew he wanted to stay. He said he realized why Jewett has one of the top reputations in the world and he wanted to keep learning from the best.
Now, he treats the best.
"We've taken care of the Magic, the Predators, the Solar Bears and UCF, and still the majority of our practices are everyday people with everyday jobs," Dr. Billings says.
He says there's nothing more rewarding than helping a runner or other exercise enthusiastic get back to pain-free performances.
Find out how he keeps striving to learn the newest techniques to help everyone from high school athletes to professional athletes to people in their 70s and 80s get back in action as quickly as possible.
